English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX) Explained
EBLEX acts to help the English beef and lamb industry boost its competitiveness and promote its products. It is funded through a Meat and Livestock Commission levy paid on all sheep and cattle slaughtered in England.
The Better Returns Programmes for Beef and Sheep have been set up by EBLEX to help farmers increase their profit margins by improving their breeding and livestock selection skills and looking at their farm costings. EBLEX also owns and operates the Quality Standard Mark (QSM) scheme for beef and lamb. This is the only UK assurance scheme to include an eating quality requirement. The QSM is based on existing red meat assurance schemes which includes Assured British Meat farm standards.
